Description
A stainless steel charcoal maker for producing your own barbecue charcoal from logs, branches, and self-cut wood.
The Petromax Stainless Steel Charcoal Smoulder lets you create your own charcoal for outdoor cooking, campfire cooking, and barbecue use. Inspired by the traditional method of charcoal making, it uses low-oxygen combustion, also known as pyrolysis, to turn wood into long-burning charcoal with low smoke development.
Simply fill the container with your chosen wood, place it directly into the fire, and allow the charring process to take place. Once cooled, you are left with homemade charcoal that can be used for outdoor cooking, grilling, and firing up kit such as the Petromax Atago.
Make Your Own Charcoal
With the Petromax Charcoal Smoulder, you can turn suitable logs, branches, and twigs into your own barbecue charcoal.
This gives you full control over the wood you use, whether that is fruit wood, birch, beech, or other suitable hardwoods. Different woods can create different smoke characteristics, allowing you to add your own flavour and character to future cooks.
Traditional Technique, Modern Design
The Charcoal Smoulder works using the same basic principle as a traditional charcoal kiln. By sealing the wood inside the stainless steel container and placing it into the fire, the wood chars slowly with limited oxygen.
During the process, you may see yellow smoke followed by white smoke towards the end of the charring stage. Once finished, remove the container from the fire and allow it to cool completely, ideally overnight.
Long-Burning Charcoal with Low Smoke
Homemade hardwood charcoal produced in the Charcoal Smoulder is ideal for outdoor cooking. It offers a long glowing phase, burns at high temperatures, and produces low smoke when used correctly.
It is suitable for use in campfires, barbecues, fire bowls, and outdoor cooking setups.
